I'm the person behind The Soulful Now...

My name's Alyssa! I have always been that artistic girl who wants to help others enjoy the same passions as I do. I started crochet back in 2021 when COVID hit... I had gotten a kitting kit for Christmas one year and decided to finally take it out. When I tried to follow the instructions to knit a hat... I got so frustrated. I really wanted to make the hat and craft while I was stuck inside, so I was determined to figure out another solution!

That's when I scoured the internet for an alternative, and found crochet. I watched a random YouTube video (can't even remember what one lol) to make a crochet hat! I won't lie, I watched like 5 minutes of it and just went with my gut for the rest. (Don't do this if you want to actually like crochet) I was never one to watch a full video or try to make something exact. I knew I could just figured it out as I went, and I DID! I was lucky--my artistic side really came through for me.

So fast forward 5 years, and now I am at the point where I can share my knowledge with you all! I spent 4 years learning how to write patterns and teach people crochet. This developed into a serious passion for fashion and being able to crochet clothes. I soon learned that a lot of people struggle to learn how to make garments and won't even try because of how overwhelming it can be.

Trust me, I GET IT! I had so many days full of frustration when I first started too! Now that I am fully comfortable, I'd love to help all you lovely people feel comfortable too.

My dream is to help others create their dream wardrobe through crochet and cozy fashion. I personally prefer being comfortable in what I am wearing over stylish... but being comfortable doesn't mean you can't be stylish too! That's where TSN's "cozy confidence" comes in! 

Just imagine, instead of struggling every day to figure out what to pair with your crochet, you can get unique items that are COZY and make you feel CONFIDENT! That's my end goal and what I want to bring to you all. I want to teach you how to make very unique pieces that make you feel like YOU, and pieces to pair with your crochet makes! Of course, this may not be able to happen just yet, but this is my goal!

SO, enough about these dreams. I personally like getting to know the person behind the brand. For The Soulful Now, that's me!! 

Hi again!!! I am Alyssa! I am 25 as of this December (2025) and am a cat mom, who loves fashion to her core. I have always been extremely artsy and love learning new things. There's no such thing as too much learning or improvement in my book! How will you get better if you don't try to learn as much as possible?

Anyway, I got my BA in Art and Design and a minor in digital marketing. My minor is actually how I grew my social media and became obsessed with social media marketing! I do content creation for multiple brands just because I think it's fun and I've always loved making videos...

Every year, My mom brings up this one stop-motion American girl doll video I made in grade school as a reminder of how far I've come! It's a little embarrassing, but also so fun to see how much has changed since then. 

In high school, I got very into photography. I attempted my own photography business which lead to burnout. I never stopped photography, but I took an extremely long break from doing it for others. This break helped me heal and find a balance in it. Now, I get to use my photography for my business and for things I love! I also get to apply what I learned through my experience running a photography business to this business so things go smoothly and I can avoid burnout.  

I have been dating a wonderful man since we were 15-16 years old, and he is one of the most supportive people in my life, especially when it comes to my crochet and this business! You may even see him in some of my content more frequently, especially as I get into making more universal crochet garment pieces! 

My mom and sister have been getting trained by me in content creation so they can be in content with me! Although my brand is pretty much all me, I want to expand outside of just myself, starting with them!

So, this is a little glimpse into my life and how I've become who I am! I spent 10 years of my life honing my talents and learning how to apply them to my professional life. Never give up on yourself or your dreams. Great things take time and experience!
